In my line of work, the term "gray market" was defined by an off shore, Mexico, or any country outside of the USA basically, making a close copy cat of a real product from a real company, but the copy cat is sold not in retail stores, but "under ground" if you will on the streets for cash, at swap meets etc.
I.E. Square D Company, a manufacturer of power distribution and control products (I worked for them 17 years, and sold their products while working on the distribution side for another 10) has battled the gray market for almost 60 years now with off shore copy cats of the QO120 circuit breaker. The real deal has a trip indication window that displays a red flag when tripped. The copy cat does not have this feature, nor is a UL Label on the fake. And in testing, the two do not function the same at all.
If in fact Samsung is a victum of "offshore" copy cats of some of their CE product line, and if any of them have been sold in the USA, there will be no record on Samsung's part how many copy cats were sold thru any means of distribution, as they did not manufacture them, thus they cannot be held liable to EDIG.
If the term gray market is being mentioned in some other manner than above, then forget what I just said.
