San Diego-based portable entertainment system provider e.Digital Corp. (OTC: EDIG) has sued 19 companies, including Canon, Kyocera, Nokia, Panasonic and Pentax, for improperly using its patented flash-memory technology in digital cameras, voice recorders and mobile phones.
e.Digital's primary product consists of small entertainment systems often found in airplanes, but the company also specializes in other portable electronics using flash memory.
The complaint was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado.
Other companies listed in the complaint include Pentax, Ikegami, HTC, Coby Electronics, DXG, Roland, Lecia Camera, Marantz, Imation, Summit Global (DBA Polaroid), Sakar, TEAC (DBA Tascam), Vtech, Wolverine Data and Samson Technologies (DBA Zoom).
Canon spokesman Mike DeMeo declined to comment. Nokia and Pentax representatives didn't immediately return calls seeking comment.
In October, Samsung Electronics Co. settled a suit brought by e.Digital claiming Samsung violated patents related to digital sound recording. The companies each agreed to license the other's patents without providing further details.
