There is one additional point that needs to be added to your astute observations...

EDIG, right from day one, wanted to be the company that got paid X dollars per widget that used its tech...

At this stage of building their bank account, their "deliberate, thoughtful, and manageable," called for getting as much as they could rather than laying it all on the line...

When they have built the funds in the Bank Account to a point that it will not mean the "Survival" of the company any longer, they may take one all the way out to trial and a verdict...

In the mean time they will have some funds to develope a market their products which should be more marketable because of all the cross-licensing...
