Hope they get them straightened out on it, but everything's electrical... The spoken word travels in wavelengths which are measured in frequency varients. To intercept the voice frequencies the mic has to be electricly engaged. The resultant vibrations are then sent to the brain/DSP to interface it into a codec signal for additional input/output.
