It was a good bet by those companies back then to forego paying EDIG anything.

First, they had no idea how the market would develop so they were looking to minimize costs. Secondly, they were able to defer payment for over a decade, and third, they probably thought EDIG would go away as a result of market forces, thinking they would not be able to sustain themselves over time as a company.

However, they slightly miscalculated as EDIG now sits with no debt, in a cash position, fully engaged with a "high priced" IP legal team now at their throats.
