"I'm guessing that a number of shareholders sold because they got tired of waiting for their profits and probably a number of other reasons. "
I'm guessing that this past years volume was not much different than the several preceding years. So did those people also tire of waiting ? Perhaps.
The realilty is that there has not been a reason to BUY yet for new investors. Well, let me restate that, as I know for sure of a few that took 6 and 7 digit positions this year on anticiipation of year end news, and when it did not happen, they left and are watching but not core investors like most here. They came for the pop and any run that might have followed.
We did see a nice rally upon the hiring of DM in '07 and I think the stock popped to .27 or there abouts on the development that EDIG was officially moving to monetize the patent portfolio, but the process has been long and arduous and the pps was not sustainable...not to mention the worst recession since the great depression coincided.
The MMs make a market and without any upward pressure they keep manipulating the spread to make their cut, which required lowering the bid to entice buyers/traders to step in.
The Markman, be it positive, should be the impetus to drive this, especially if followed by a flurry of settlements and a round 3 announcement.
