They do way more with them than controlling the flash memory VPP /VCC and will continue to control whatever issues are involved in writing to, or flashing the memory.

And when writing to, or flashing memory is no longer a concern, whatever memory favored by the industry....they will write to, read from... and program(if needed) that memory with the same shortcut methods.
