You also must consider that EDIG was in the market with product before Apple.

Apple had the better interface (mousetrap) and the financial ability to drive their innovation, technically and with marketing clout.

EDIG made its best effort. It was not good enough. What must be noted is that there were many others, better financed than EDIG, that also could not compete with Apple.

EDIG is still in the game, for now, and could still go after Apple. I'm not sure any of the other companies aforementioned can make that claim.
