Keep this in mind....Application development, for the most part, has always adopted to OS's.
For e.Digital .....they adopt the OS to the attributes of Applications...or other OS's.
They have turned around the norm on that front. While at the same time manage all memory allocation.
IMO, Apps that develop with e.Digital...can petition off a section of memory for proprietary purposes.....in this case, as the commentary considers...."And these apps manage their own file storage. […]"....can be true.
