I don't think Handal would have filed against any defendant if they didn't expect a monetary settlement or to win at trial. Not being a lawyer, I don't know of any hidden strategy. Your theory of putting pressure on the OEM's by filing against the retailers could be a clever part of their strategy, but I honestly think they expect cash from them.
