You can earn activity points by filling your profile with information about yourself (what city you live in, your favorite team, blogs etc.)
If you mean material event as in the SEC requiring an 8-K, I don't recall in the DM days when we got our 1st RB settlement it was 8-K'd, but it was in a PR.
The 1st one was with wolverine data I think, and it was about 38K per year, which is not that "material" either.
