Good post and you present a very reasonable theory... I sure hope you're right.

If the company has finally found a way to increase shareholder value WITHOUT a legal battle, then much will be forgiven. It does appear that they are positioning for something and you may have hit on the how & why of it.  I could see Google quietly using/directing e.Digital to secure patents that have value to them... knowing that the IP will soon be part of their own portfolio.  Makes sense to me anyway.
