If memory serves and JB addressed in an earlier missive - Carlin Style is where the mineral is disseminated through the host material on a microscopic level, something not understood or realized until sometime in the 20th century.

I'm thinking Briscoe had come to some conclusion regarding the added claims that no one else had arrived at - probably as a result of data gathered over the past several years - particularly the misidentification of the underlying 'formation' . . .   described in earlier missives.
