I guess the way I look at it is...

My average cost is much higher (around $1). I could just as easily have sold them today and recorded a loss, then transferred the proceeds to my TFSA and bought the same number of shares.
I'm going to attempt to file as such, though will speak with my accountant to make sure things are on the level. I think my rationale is sound, but CRA may have a different opinion.
