Did TECK publicly announce they had a copper shortage or is that only your opinion?
Don Lindsay did say they were looking for an acquisition by the end of the year. They are in the second round of bids for Zaldivar in Chile.
There is an article today saying that Teck is considering selling their silver stream that would give them about US$1B. The money could be used, according to the article, to add to their copper production.
“Selling silver streams to add copper production could make sense and would reduce debt or equity issuance, in our opinion,” Barnes said in a note.
“However, the market for copper assets is highly competitive, and to date, Teck has not been able to find value.”
