The additional 50% in his pocket is money in the bank.  Nothing to do but wait for NPV equation to baloon.   I am sure that a 50% return on his money in just 18 months is quite irresistable. 

The real unknown and bigger risk imo is whether they can replicate with other project in a reasonble amount of time.  The speed of development of the other early-stage projects are big long-term unkowns with this company reputation.   Who's going to stick around after SC is gone anyway?  Could be another lost decade.  The market doesn't forget.
