I'd rather own silver, because I prefer stuff that comes in big piles. It's hard to amass a big pile of gold. I couldn't imagine holding some tiny little metal wafer worth $1200... I want a big honking shiny brick that I can't easily misplace.
Though be warned, copper will be worth a lot more than either silver or gold in the post-apocalyptic Mad Max wasteland.
