Regarding comments on Quebec's prudent long-term plan to become as energy independent as possible. Well wouldn't you know it along comes a sizeable shale gas find that represents a new potential political dynamic coming into play...... should this thing be for real & Quebec becomes a substantial natural gas producer with a commensurate explosion in provincial royalty revenues.
Think they would be willing to slice up their homebaked pie & share pieces with other provinces via mandated interprovincial equalization payment transfers, should they become a "have" province?
If this natural gas find has legs then the only question that remains is how many Quebecers will change their vote to "separate", to the degree these new revenues makes them feel more independent and able to stand proudly on their own. Thus the forces behind this dynamic can only work against an appreciating Looney, but fortunately that will take many years to mature. It will be interesting to see how the "Green" forces of Quebec who would try to stop development of a large natural gas find, will fare against voters in the province who view this resource as key to Quebec sovereignty.
Gas find may spur drilling in Quebec
