IMHO, the large manufacturers jump on EV is not the potential. They are forced by regulations to do so. In China and EU they cannot exist any more without EVs.
EVs are not (yet) profitable products. TSLA is classic example. Even with subsidies and massive payment from Fiat (Tesla is included in Fiat fleet in EU) they are at loss or breakeven at best.
A breaktrough on the battery cost would help, but somehow I am bit sceptical, that out of all battery producers, only TSLA was able to get it. Movement of the battery day as well as the movement of the shareholders meeting has some other reasons. I speculate, that they keep the stock price elevated by posponing those events....
