The phrase "Dollars to doughnuts" is way, way outdated since the price of a doughnut has risen above a dollar years ago, but the original meaning of that phrase applies when taken into the context of the 1950's and 1960's (when doughnuts were no where near as much as $1 each) if I were to say: 

"I would bet dollars to doughnuts that ProsserP is talking about the SS battery Electrovaya is working on".
