I find it odd that he would make the filing now. Normally the filing is made upon the execution of a security agreement because until it is filed there is no priority (which is chronological I believe) over others who may have an interest in the same security/property/collateral. Either he just woke up and realized it had not been done, or there are other activities going on which spurred the question and caused him to try and get his ducks in a row.
