The AMERO currency you referred to is currently a non-issue in Canada - I have never seen this referred to. Periodically some Canadians talk about having a common currency with the US but that has usually been a more popular idea when the loonie is significantly lower in value than the US$. Currently we are enjoying the benefits of lower import costs and lower inflation - especially with regards to the price of gas where the increase has not be anywhere as dramatic as in the US. We would have NO impact on monetary policy in a joint currency, and most people recognise this would not be positive.

I think your Canadian dollar hedge is safe for the forseeable future.
