There are a lot of ways they can affect the day to day market price some legal and some unethical. Our stock market regulators are fairly toothless but could put a watch on if 'funny stuff' starts.

Probably could sell today and still have their vote on those shares stand because nobody could check back. Doubt they would as if it ever came to light there would be trouble.
