A new “inventory” of potential Northern Ontario hydroelectric stations may allow remote First Nations to get rid of their outdated diesel-powered generators, as well as provide a source of clean, cheap power to the Ring of Fire mining belt.
The inventory, to be catalogued through a provincially funded study overseen by the Ontario Waterpower Association, could make this province more like its neighbours when it comes to the development of remote hydro stations.
