Message: Canada Reaches Historic Trade Agreement with the European Union

REgarding Quebec dairy farmers, I rememember many years ago pre NAFTA, the canadian wine makers, an industry that had been subsidized for years and made pure crap, was up in arms saying that NAFTA would destroy the Canadian wine industry a grape growers etc.

After nearly 20 years, growers have dumped the old concord grapes for real winegrapes, wine makers reinvented themselves and invested in new equipment and techniques. New wineries are popping up every year and even new growing areas(prince edward count etc) are popping up.O.T.

Canadian wines are now sought after by almost every market in the world and consistently win international awards for quality.

Maybe the dairy farmer can learn from this, the new trade agreement should also open up new markets for them. Many of my favourite cheeses are from Quebec, maybe they can step it up a notch and reinvent themselves. Such is the problem with industries that are subsidiezed, they keep doing the same thing yer after year, equipment gets old, and they lose competetiveness. The pulp and paper industry is a perfect example.
