As a result of the Premier's first international trade mission to China, Ontario has secured an additional 11 science and technology partnerships and clean technology commercial agreements worth an estimated $358 million. These projects could create up to 80 new jobs in communities across Ontario.
This is in addition to the 1,800 Ontario jobs that will be generated by 11 investments worth $966 million, which were announced by Chinese companies during the Premier's mission to China.
The mission was an important part of Ontario's Going Global Trade Strategy, which helps businesses expand into priority markets.
Attracting new investments and helping the province's businesses compete globally is part of the government's economic plan for Ontario. The four-part plan is building Ontario up by investing in people's talents and skills, building new public infrastructure like roads and transit, creating a dynamic, supportive environment where business thrives and building a secure savings plan so everyone can afford to retire.
“The momentum of the China trade mission continues to deliver dividends for Ontario companies. The strength of our relationship with China and the resulting agreements signal a strong vote of confidence in what Ontario’s clean tech sector has to offer and will help create jobs and opportunity across our province.”
Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and International Trade
“Ontario is proud to lead international science and technology collaboration that results in business growth for Ontario. Working collaboratively enables us to showcase Ontario's talented workforce and innovative tech companies while opening up opportunities in emerging markets. York Region’s Cenith Air Inc. demonstrates that strengthening our ties with China in key areas such as clean tech is generating jobs for Ontarians and growing Ontario’s clean tech sector.”
Minister of Research and Innovation
“Our company’s increased international presence in a key global market like China and the successful promotion of our state-of-the-art products was a direct result of the Premier-led trade mission and the support provided by Ontario’s Going Global Trade Strategy.”
