....."So are we taking odds that the Feds have an option on CLFs holdings and will do a deal with a major where the local FN in the immediate area of ROF are given a minority interest? A FN PPP on the Infastructure Corridor with Fed money and a request for Ontario to match? Would make for some quick action and leave Wynne spinning. ""--Been There
I'll take those odds:-
Because:-.......
1. It fits Harper's decade long vision of opening the arctic and reinforcing Canadian sovereignty.
2. It's a strategic legacy project for Canada and Harper.
3. It creates An Arctic port on James Bay eg, Churchill, Moosonee, etc
4. It provides a year round naval home base for our arctic ice --reinforced 10+ Navy Ship fleet currently being constructed by Irving Shippbuilding in NB.
5. It produces a tidewater export port for energy exports from western Canada to Europe, and an alternative to the Obama XL blockade
6. It eliminates Canada dependency on US energy export markets and US energy pricing.
7. It provides an alternative t'o intra Canadian FN blackmail negotiating positions in BC and RoF, to name but two. It also adds a FN carrot.
8. It provides a new export market for PQ clean energy at much cheaper (eg. Ferrochrome) pricing than Ontario Hydro.
9. It provides huge, ongoing, high pay job opportunities for skilled workers To employ Oilsand expats; On and PQ FN; southern Ontario mine and materials manufacturing industries, etc.
10. Reinforces Fed leadership in the north (Rickford has Mining AND Enery in the north, and is now the point man on the XL pipeline application for Canada.
11. It (port; RR; hydro; NOT NI/PGM etc; EW road; updated FS budget presentation last Friday-- including Cr mine plans: Sudbury smelting, processing etc etc)...... Provides a funding/financing, governance, a managerial alternative to DEVCO, and bypasses the Ontario stonewalling, political belligerence and incompetence.
12. The " Port , etc" provides a huge arctic Canadian sovereignty bona vides claim for the pending UN led arctic seabed land claim negotiations well underway, and Canada's soon to be submitted claim.
13. It provides a check to US and Russian arctic hegemony undersea claims and the necessary means to actually do something about uninvited incursions into Canadian territory.
14. It provides the basis for approvals of the Rickford/Coutts proposed "cut out" NOT EAgles Nest "start small" mine build project while awaiting the evolutionary outcome of the never ending IB negotiations.
15. It provides a carrot and a quiet stick (there are alternatives) to Ontario.
16. Provides a very significant portion of Harpers 2015 reelection and legacy platform.
Just thinking, imo.
