3. It creates An Arctic port, - that is not Arctic but at best sub-arctic.
But following do not apply, imo because too far south. Churchill is further north and it does not contribute much in these aspects. Try Rankin Inlet or Frobisher Bay (Iqaluit) for those qualifications.
4. It provides a year round naval home base for our arctic ice --reinforced 10+ Navy Ship fleet currently being constructed by Irving Shippbuilding in NB.
12. The " Port , etc" provides a huge arctic Canadian sovereignty bona vides claim for the pending UN led arctic seabed land claim negotiations well underway, and Canada's soon to be submitted claim.
13. It provides a check to US and Russian arctic hegemony undersea claims and the necessary means to actually do something about uninvited incursions into Canadian territory.
