I disagree regarding court case. Treaty 9 in my unqualified opinion deals with the issue adequately. Namely, IF any title or equivelent existed it was ceeded by the signing of the treaty. Treaty is an agreement of exchange of possible old rights and privileges for support from federal government and all that it entails.
What the natives are doing now is that they want not only the best of both worlds, but more.
What we do need is for the courts to give proper respect to signed treaties and not treat them as less then historical hear say. Also we need the whole country treated the same and not by individual treaties or lack of.
Some how the whole issue is being touched with kid's gloves lest bias or prejudice is accused onto the courts and politicians.
I think Pierre Trudeau had a good idea of a homogenious country, if I remember him well.
( what ever we may see him as from this far in time, it can not be denied that he was a leader. We need equivalent now.)
