"When asked whether any federal infrastructure money will go toward the Ring of Fire, a spokesperson for Infrastructure Canada said this week that it has not received any applications related to the development from the Ontario government.

Michael Gravelle, Ontario’s Minister of Northern Development and Mines, confirmed in an interview that no application has been made. He said that’s because Ontario won’t submit a request without the support of area First Nations and the province continues to negotiate with them in an effort to reach consensus.

“There’s still some important discussions that are taking place,” he said. “I continue to be optimistic that we can find a resolution whereby recommendations will come forward related to the road structure. ... I can’t see us moving ahead without the support of the First Nations.”

Mr. Gravelle said the province is also pressing the federal government “pretty hard” to match the $1-billion promised by Ontario."

The globe story is in contradiction to this story from 2014.

http://www.tbnewswatch.com/News/365904/Province_submits_application_under_Building_Canada_fund_for_$1B_Ring_of_Fire_contribution

"But last Thursday Gravelle sent Rickford a letter saying that the province has submitted its application under the federal government's Building Canada fund to get Canada to match the figure. Gravelle said the ask, formally submitted by economic development minister Brad Duguid, was very detailed.....

Ontario is eligible for around $2.7 billion under the fund. But the province chose instead to try and access the $4 billion unallocated so far and set aside in the fund for national infrastructure, something Gravelle said the federal government needs to recognize. The Ring of Fire is a nationally significant project"

When I go into the Infrastructure Canada website:

http://www.infrastructure.gc.ca/plan/nbcp-npcc-eng.html

  • A $14-billion New Building Canada Fund, which consists of the:
    • $4-billion National Infrastructure Component (NIC) that will support projects of national significance; and
    • $10-billion Provincial-Territorial Infrastructure Component (PTIC) for projects of national, regional and local significance. Of this amount, $1 billion is dedicated to projects in communities with a population of fewer than 100,000 residents.
  • An additional $1.25 billion in funding for the P3 (Public-Private Partnerships) Canada Fund administered by PPP Canada. For further information, please visit their website.

When infrastructure Canada "claims" it didn't recieve an application ...you scratch your head.

Back in the Harper days when the Ontario gov't "claimed" it filled out a DETAILED application from the National Infrastructure component....you'd think if it was NOT the case ..that Rickford would have jumped and called this out as a big fat lie to the media???

Since he did not...I'm wondering the following.

The Globe could have meant...there is no PTIC application ...since there never was.

But......according to what was published in 2014 there was an NIC application(National Infrastructure component) filled out

The Ontario Legislature returns Sept. 12 ...and Gravelle better get his story straight because he'll be hammered in the Legislature by opposition...same for Wynne
