Having lived on several "reserves" and having many FN friends I will state what I have been told.

Traditional lands is the area that FN used before the invation(invatation/invasion) of europeans. There was no towns or villages but a series of encampments spread over a large area. They were snowbirds so to speak and travelled to the south in winter and followed herds and flocks and fish and fruits and berries as needed. This is why a couple of hundred miles would be covered over a season or two and then back again. This is also why the FN tradition areas overlap as when people are moving east, some would move north etc. The land was not owned by one group but shared amongs all. There were troubles between groups but not normaly over land but as the case usualy is, trading and family disagreements. The european tradition of farming and raising animals led to ownership requirements and there in is the nature of the disagreements between cultures. It is only after the FN were in their minds, taken advantage of, did they clue in on the ownership needs. And there is our problem.
