Message: Ramaphosa's win

when you read the below..you can put the picture together.

South Africa is in the drivers seat in regards to having the chrome ore...China does not have its own chrome resources.

with 28% unemployment and the leader wanting to put people back to work.....why would South Africa be in this position when it holds the Chrome cards?

Looks like the new winner may stir things up.

We also need to diversify our economy, specifically through the development of our industrial capacity.

South Africa has abundant mineral and agricultural resources, but is not extracting the true economic value of these resources before exporting them.

In reality, South Africa’s natural resources are creating millions of jobs in other countries.

By beneficiating our minerals, by processing our agricultural produce, we will be able to realise their full potential value.

Radical economic transformation will not be achieved without a massive increase in the number of South Africans who are employed.

Job creation remains the most effective driver of inclusive growth, the most direct route out of poverty, and the best way to address inequality.

That is why government, business, labour and other social partners have identified job creation as the most important and pressing economic task of the moment.

Everything we do must be aimed towards job creation.

Imports of finished stainless steel productsinto South Africa surged by 44% in 2016, a survey by Southern African Stainless SteelDevelopment Association (sassda) has revealed.

This was largely owing to a flood of imported product, primarily from China. In comparison, the export of finished products dropped by 20%.

the country’s R15-billion stainless steel industry has also felt the strain of a contraction in its consumption figures in the last two years, also caused by a flood of Asian imports, a drop in the export of finished products and the resultant huge decrease in the conversion of primary to finished products.

Sassda executive director John Tarboton noted in a statement issued on Wednesday that, whereas South Africawas still a net exporter of stainless steel finished products in 2015, having exported 8 000 t more than it imported, the country now imported 40 000 t of stainless steel finished products more than it exported, therefore running a trade deficit on stainless steel finished products.

Last year, South Africa produced a below-capacity 3.5-million tonnes of ferrochrome compared with China’s 4.6-million tonnes.

South Africa has a capacity to produce 4.2-million tonnes of ferrochrome a year, but has been producing in the range of three-million tonnes to 3.7-million tonnes because of electricity and price constraints.

This year, South Africa expects to produce 3.9-million tonnes of ferrochrome, with half-year production hitting the two-million-tonne mark.

CHROME RESOURCES

China does not have its own chrome resources and South Africa, with 70% of the world's chrome resources, sends 90 of the chrome it exports to China.
