Shortly has made a good point. I am sure CCRA have not let anyone off tax free when they made up the rules. They would be losing a heck of a lot of money if everyone only paid the 1% penalty ONLY on the additional amount they put in over and above the original $5000. and not taxing the capital gain. I am very cautious about overcontributing until we hear back on Tuesday when the official word comes in.
