"Google just shelled out a quarter billion dollars to invest in a company with an app for hailing cabs. No joke. That company was said to have over a $3B market cap now. I look at a stupid software company like that and then theres POET with hardware that could be powering devices until the day I die of old age, looking at ans SP in the mid forties and I want to punch a wall."
And that's why someone who has some basic technical understanding and is capable to do some simple arithmetic should conclude that the real share value is at least somewhere in the fifties – dollars, of course. Multiply that a) with the market-assumed probability that POET can deliver and b) with our company's publicity, then factor in some psychology and trading effects, and you get the share price. Imagine what happens when a) jumps to something close to 1.0! Once this takes place it will have a tremendous impact on b) which is – just guessing – currently at only 0.0something.
Most people following POET's announcements closely consider the delivery probability being quite close to 1.0. Still some risk remains and "the market" (whoever that is) judges otherwise, as we know and regret.
I'd also like to point out the fact that negotiations between parties about cooperations of any kind are not unlikely to take several months, especially if they are strategic and high-volume. I am working in the IT business, and my personal experience is that customers may need upto 6 months for deciding whether to implement a rather simple IT project and at which conditions. And the larger the company is, the longer the decision takes. Might be different in America than in Germany, but I doubt it.
