That's as good as any, schnauser, but it works only so long as then current emotion does not trump the mechanics of the system. Some have no problem following such rules, and are able to readily subordinate their emotion (in some cases, perhaps, not that much emotion to overcome!), others would have no problem following such rules with the vast majority of stocks, but when it comes to a near cult stock, there are some very strong emotional ties which must be broken.
Discipline in selling is the toughest for most, I wish they gave booster shots for that! That's why a buy out is generally a good thing, decision is taken from you, for the most part.
If one's spouse is not also a near cult member, one could promise one's spouse that when the price hits ____ (set in whatever way you choose), one will sell X amount, and the couple will use the money to ____________.
