Dear Rainer and TWG
There is no doubting the importance of the new operational plan to develop POET VCSEL, but I cannot agree with Rainer that PET is simply an interim step towards POET based products alone. Surely, they can exist in parallel and be developed in parallel. Not all customers products will need optical capabilities or not yet.To think otherwise is to dismiss 18 months of PET development, to my mind if PET is a failure that we would have been told about as its a materiel fact.
One should consider whether an operational plan is but one campaign in a company's strategy and I feel the weakness of some arguments made here, such as Rainer's, is that new plan is a change in direction or priority that amounts to ditching PET or PET based products. It simply does not gel for me and I cannot rule out from the facts, as I see them, the existence of a relationship with a customer who wishes to develop PET products and POET for that matter.
TheWaitingGame who appears to be claim a greater grasp of reality in his response Rainer to DNWL's post, should explain why Synopsys who were developing PET based software for customers to design, develop, test and manufacture PET products under license continues remains critical to PTI as SV stated in the Q&A section of the Op Update as follows. As this does not fit with the PET is dead notions being promoted as the only reality.
36:36 – Answer: While the VCSEL is the central theme of our first product, we still need the electronic devices to achieve true monolithic integration. To that end, understanding the behavior and modeling of our devices remains critical and thus our engagement with Synopsys continues.

To me our CEO is clearly stating the existence of PET development capacity for customers as part of the IP offer.Surely this is clear statement that PET is alive and kicking and someone out there is sufficiently interested in it for the Synopsys to be critical to PTI
The Reality is we cannot yet write off PET or a customer interested in developing it into products.
