Killik..
Dad was in the Bank and transfered to the rock in '53...
back to the mainland in '57...
best years of my life..learned how to smoke..drink in St Pierre,at 10 years old...work on a schooner shoveling salt for a nickle a hogshead, when they came into port..tell stories and lies with the best of them and all about the birds and the bees...or at least I thought I knew all about them at 12 years old..
Learned how to fish and hunt..fillet fish, the real way..shoot .22's ,killing harbour seals(nuisances, and cod eaters..hated for that by fishermen) and turrs.(to eat)..learned how to dynamite stumps and stones out of our soccer field at 11 years old..thought nothing of it..The RCMP Sgt.was impressed too..(One of our buddy's dad was a building contractor and used a lot of dynamite in his business ,as every thing is rock ,on the Rock..so his son worked with his dad and knew all about blasting..so it was pretty normal to get the keys to the dynamite shed and take a few sticks off to the soccer field and blow out rocks and stumps that were in the field...)
Took our dynamite away and told our mom's and dads..
Oh how times have changed..
So yes..I can tell a story or two.,..
