NDP Leader Howard Hampton called on Aboriginal Affairs Minister Michael Bryant to resign over the matter.
“The minister failed to protect aboriginal rights at KI. He has demonstrated his inability to fulfil his obligation and resolve this matter. He should resign,” Hampton (Kenora-Rainy River) said Monday during question period in the legislature.
Hampton added: “This unfortunate (court) decision is a direct result of the McGuinty government‘s complete and utter failure to assume its constitutional responsibility to consult with First Nations communities regarding mineral exploration on their traditional lands.”
This is indeed troubling. I need to read in more depth - others should too. This is the Ontario Government and the Aboriginal Affairs Minister we're talking about. Shades of the crap that went on with Voisey Bay.
