"e.Digital would still want to protect their trade secrets to the best of their ability for whatever competitive advantage that might afford them in the future.'
I have come to the same thought. That includes applying for new patents and having to reveal secrets of new ideas, ie...encryption, where the principles are base on previously patented and detailed digital methods.
Apparently, there were individualized hardware and file handling patents (recipes) approved, similar to the manner in which Hanson applied application. Though, individualized, collectively they shut Hanson down, where the actual digital elements are not specifically detailed.
Hanson abandoned his efforts in Aug 2008....by not responding to correspondence sent in 2007.
There's describing elements that you can theoretically imply, which I refer to as a "recipe", and then there's describing elements of which you cannot see that actually make the "recipe" work.
e.Digital is going to be blocked by recipes. They will not be able to simply imply the utilization of an encrypted hard drive, or a file decrypter ...etc ... as others got away with.
Things will have to be more defined, where you give up your secrets.
