"The NDA's were extremely long-lived."

No, that was a complaint by others from early-on in the search for a partner.  As I recall they wanted 2-year agreements, which if signed at the time would have them now controlling a lot of the most important land around the Tombstone caldera.  The typical NDA in mining is 5 years, not the rule but typical.
