CDNbigfoot and flapsupgearup, you are both correct. If you hold stock in an unregistered investing account, you can sell this, claim the capitol loss/gain on it which is approx half the tax you would pay if you withdrew it from an RSP account. It would be an idea situation if you had a stock in an unregistered investing account that you could claim a capitol loss on when sold,(you would have to sell this before the tax loss selling deadline date) then take this money to buy SLI in your TFSA account on jan 4th.
