PMB,

Suppose it is 4th and goal with 5 seconds left in the game and your team is down by two points. You can go for the TD, go for the field goal or fake the field goal and go for the TD.

The coach has a good kicker, calls the safe play and goes for the field goal. Just as the ball is snapped a crosswind comes up and the kick is a little off. The ball hits the upright and bounces back on the field as the clock runs out.

Now, the Monday morning quarterback can easily say, "He should have faked the kick and run it into the end zone." Easy call when you have the benefit of hindsite. Still, there are no guarantees. It's all an imaginary game at that point.

Does that mean the coach could "learn from his mistakes" from that experience? I doubt it. There really was no mistake. You call 'em as you sees 'em. That's what makes you the coach. And you never beat yourself up on Monday.
