Think of all of the dilution in the last five years and then how close "insiders" must be to having complete control of the ownership of the Company!
While I agree with many of your points, I don't think this is the case. I'm sure that if we had a detailed listing of insider holdings, measured against the fully-diluted potential stock base, they wouldn't represent a significant portion of the company.
For instance, Gusella him was the largest shareholder at one point, I think, but remember that even he got margined out of several million shares when the economy blind-sided everyone.
And on a related note, remember that it is not a bad thing if insiders have a decent part ownership of the company. "Vested Interests" is the key phrase here.
