Agreed. This is one of the big factors in why right now is the best time to make the deal. The demand is finally there in the copper space. Teck can make a fair deal with CUU and still make money with a partner on Schaft. Teck was willing to slow play Schaft because it had other big deals to make in its copper pipeline, Galore and QB2, and extend Highland Valley. So they could take their time in pecking away at Schaft, meet the minimum spending levels set out in the JV and in the process test the resolve of CUU. If CUU capitulated early then they could get Schaft for a bargain - I'm sure Teck knows what it has in Schaft. So Teck had nothing to lose all this time. But now that CUU has taken things to this point we'll see what they can get. Fingers crossed.
