You're comparing society to your ideals instead of society to where we used to be, and where we're headed.

For the past 10,000 years of humanities existance, it has been to wake up at dawn and work, usually farming and to sleep for minimal hours only to wake back up again the next day to continue working. And all this for abject poverty. Even though many of us complain about working "soul sucking jobs" in comparison to the vast majoirty of our ancestors, we're living like kings and we take it for granted. There's been very few periods in time where the average person has had the ability to save, let alone invest. What you grew in your field was what was there for the season, and that was that. People had many children in the hopes one of them would live long enough and make something of themselves - it used to be very common for children to just die at a young age - a lot of the problems we see now is because we're...well living. Those kids that you might take in, 100 years ago would have died before they even got to your doorstep. That's a leg up. Today, they at least have actual shelters with proper food and what not. We see problems related to heart disease and old age. We never had those problems because we never used to live that long! My generation cries at the cost of education - but the one before us never even had the opportunity. We have a chance to enrich our minds and educate ourselves. We have more information at our hands and news that comes out in a day then was ever written in 1000 years prior to the 1900's. That's got to be worth something.

We've come a long way, and we have a long way to go - but that doesn't mean we've done nothing. If you're just going to belittle my generation, and the one before mine for raising us - you're not exactly helping us get much further now, are you? Society has problems for sure, but we need to solve them - not just put them blame on someone.
