I think you can rest assured of at least two things:
1.Dakshidin will not let the US market by the wayside.It is too large to pass.As you metioned,many areas are drought striken and this will create a large market .The effort now for management is to get the factory up and going as well as staffing the company in the right places.
2.Dakshidin's product is a leader and I do no conceive one second that the patenting issue has not been tackled.
I have been involved in the past with patent issues on a laser guidance system .We left the patenting issue with a law office specialized in this kind of work.
They then sent out legal requests to all major patenting authorities accross the world. Once this process is established,it protects your invention under a "patent pending" status. The final patent is issued later after it has been reviewed and cross-checked against other inventions to verify its funtionality and originality. This process can take months and sometimes even years!
