A free market doesn't exist, when cartels are operating and distort the market. An economic system dominated by cartels is what you have seen in fascist countries and communist countries (the State cartel) all over the world in the past.

The US is presently suffering of Crony Capitalism in its worst form and that has nothing to do with free markets. As such, you will not get the fruits of a free market, which is a an optimal allocation of labor, goods and capital, but the exact opposite.

Those exact opposite results are tearing down the US economy right under our noses. Capital is accumulating on one side (banksters hold up profits) and labor on the other side (unemployment and misery).

This Crony Capitalism is going to make Karl Marx right after all: Verelendung and whatever follows.
