Message: Re: Jim Turley to present (Confessions of a Patent Troll)

Just what is going on here with deprecating Turley?

Did anyone get past the title of the presentation?

Jim Turley will discuss the pros and cons of IP licensing and how it can help -- or hurt -- the industry. He'll touch on some pending federal legislation that would seriously affect the IP industry and the role that lawyers, engineers, and politicians play in this large industry segment.

Here's another "Confessions of a Patent Troll"

Confessions of a Patent Troll Patent Troll: (n) Anyone who creates something new and patents it, but is not a large multinational corporation.

Yes... I am a patent troll. I invented several complex devices and then launched a company. I visited with dozens of VC's and potential corporate partners to find investment. Investors want assets like customers, products, patents, etc., and most won't invest unless they exist. My "assets" were pending patents, which are not assets until they are numbered.

Many of the folks I talked to in good faith took the idea, productized it and are now making a lot of money in a multi-billion dollar industry. Seven years later, my patents are still pending... no asset - no investment.

Today, the market is saturated by the largest software companies on the planet. No investor in their right mind will invest now.

Seven years in the patent office has made me a patent troll.

I ask you this... Will eliminating patents solve the problem? Or would that just send inventors fishing instead of innovating? Or would speeding the patent process and the quality of patents solve the problem?

Assumed guilty until proved innocent?

Be well
