Well, I think the main purpose of this board should be to allow for honest debate. So if people AREN'T approaching it with that perspective, they would hopefully refrain, or at least those of us who are would call them on it as it would be eventually discernible through their posting.

Don't be so cyinical! Losing the Super Bowl (as you can see I enjoy reminding you of that) shouldn't affect the rest of your views. I know that's coming from someone who's team WON the last SB they participated in, but hey, I don't let that WIN cloud my judgement either.
