CC, I agree with every last comment you made in your posting. But my original point was addressing someone who was reportedly making an investment decision based only on postings here ("after reading postings ... would never buy"). I hope you would agree that doing that would not be too clever for an investor.

As far as the types of people using this board, I'd say we are much alike. My view is that we mostly use this board to satisfy our social/psychological needs (99%), primarily frustration release and our need to be recognized (recommendation scores are important to many of us). There is little DD value (1%), mostly factual legal info.
IMO the archives of all the years of postings on this message board would make great research material for a Sociology or Psychology or Business PhD candidate's thesis.
